Not saying it's 100% guaranteed that it would have saved his life, but I think he would have had more of a chance had they called 911 sooner and immediately started doing CPR training on him. Being trained in CPR, and the Heimlich maneuver has saved MANY lives.

That's why I always make sure I am up to date on CPR and resuscitation training. Even just chest compressions could have saved his life. I do think his life could have been saved though. I was just a kid (not even a teenager) back when he died. When I listened back to the 911 tape that I posted above it sounded like it was his sister who was trying to revive him. Since River was funding his whole family and their ever increasing number of "friends" ( which Rivers real friends called "Cling-ons")on his career alone, I can understand why they waited so long to help for him. Not blaming him for what happened to River because they ( Joaquin and Rain) were so well trained by their mother and River's agent to believe that River's image as a angel-faced, vegan, messiah that wanted to change the world was the most important thing ever and that a story about him doing drugs that would have inevitably come out if the police was involved, which would have made his drug use public knowledge and hurt River's image and screwed up River's income. Since River was funding his whole family and their ever increasing number of "friends" ( which Rivers real friends called "Cling-ons")on his career alone, I can understand why they waited so long to get help for him. But whether he called the agent first or not, what is known/ a fact is that they waited a while before they called 911 for help and those minutes could have saved River. I have heard that he first called River's agent instead of 911 when River started convulsing on the sidewalk while Rain was sitting on River to try and stop his seizures and River's girlfriend, actress Samantha Mathias, was in a corner crying not knowing what to do.
